Gurmeet also negotiates and drafts termination deeds and settlement agreements where appropriate.
Gurmeet has been involved in many heavyweight disputes at the High Court and Court of Appeal. Knights is a member of the British Franchise Association and Gurmeet regularly speaks at events for their members. He has also spoken at World Intellectual Property Organisation events.
Acting for SMEs, franchisors, individual and groups of franchisees, Gurmeet’s clients include some of the best-known franchise brands such as Service Master, Snappy Snaps and GreenThumb.
Examples of how Gurmeet has helped clients include:
- successfully establishing that a franchisor could refuse to renew a franchise and was not obliged to consult with the franchisee on performance criteria; and
- enforcing the termination clauses and restrictive covenants when a powerful group of franchisees tried to challenge renewal terms and trade outside the franchisor’s brand; and
- freezing the assets of a franchisee and preventing them from continuing to defraud the franchisor by syphoning off work to another company – also sending a strong message to other franchisees that infringement of the franchise terms would not be tolerated.
