Oliver advises on a wide range of public law issues and is a judicial review specialist. In addition he regularly advises litigants on claims including abuse, harassment, defamation, data protection, breach of confidence or the misuse of confidential information, infringement of intellectual property rights, shareholder disputes, professional negligence and injunctions.

Much of Oliver’s work involves acting within the healthcare sector for patients, drug companies, care home operators and national bodies such as the National Pharmacy Association.  He also acts for a broad spectrum of clients including celebrities, high-profile Police officers and company owners.

Examples of how Oliver has helped clients include:

  • clarifying that the government has a duty to reduce healthcare inequalities - The Pharmaceutical Services Negotiating Committee and The National Pharmacy Association v The Secretary of State for Health [2017] EWHC 1147 (Admin);
  • protecting the rights of drug companies in the UK to keep their trial results confidential - The Queen (on the application of Richmond Pharmacology Limited) v The Health Research Authority and Sense About Science [2015] EWHC 2238;
  • securing the reinstatement of a police chief constable following an unlawful suspension; and The Queen (on the application of the Temporary Chief Constable for Lincolnshire Police) v The Police and Crime Commissioner for Lincolnshire [2013] EWHC 1009.
  • defending a high street retailer against a claim of intellectual property infringement from a leading German pencil manufacturer.
