IT, Intellectual Property and Data Protection expert joins Knights

A well-respected commercial contracts lawyer with more than 25 years’ experience has joined national professional services business Knights.

Karen Harrison joins the growing team at its Derby office as a partner, bringing a wealth of experience in non-contentious IT and intellectual property, data protection and freedom of information issues.

Having worked both in-house and in private practice Karen is looking forward to growing her client base at Knights.

“The demand for support in IT, IP and data protection issues has grown rapidly,” said Karen.

“It’s now commonplace to work with IT and large amounts of data. And with the EU referendum around the corner it’s an important time in data protection law; post-referendum businesses could find themselves facing huge 20 million euro fines by 2018 if they aren’t in-line with regulations, so it’s our role to ensure clients are ready for any change.”

Knights is the fastest growing professional services business with seven offices across the country and was the first UK commercial law firm to be granted an ABS licence in 2013. Knights opened its Derby office in August 2015 and since then, the office has grown to more than 30 professionals and aims to reach a target of 50 within six months.

Karen continued: “I was attracted to Knights because of its entrepreneurial approach to providing services and it’s refreshing attitude to making quick decisions that benefit both clients and staff. It’s also exciting to join a new, growing office in a national firm that has so many interesting clients.

“My aim is to continue providing an excellent service for clients, while growing a specialist team at Knights in this expanding sector.”

Andrew Pilkington, office leader said: “Since opening our new office in Derby last August, we have quickly attracted some of the best professionals in the Midlands and we have expanded our team of specialists.

“Karen will be a welcome asset to our team and will be working closely with our business experts who support a raft of clients across the region and the UK.”

Knights is living up to its name as the fastest-growing professional services business in the UK and has ambitious plans to grow further.

“We’ve always been open about our desire to attract the very best talent and reward employees with a sustainable business model and a positive culture that benefits everyone,” Andrew added.
